The Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team is making history by participating in the UTR Sports NIT Championship for the first time. After a successful season with 20 wins and an Atlantic Sun Conference Championship appearance, the Colonels will compete in the tournament held at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. from May 5-8.
EKU has not been to a national postseason tournament since 2015 when they played against No. 5 Texas A&M in the NCAA Tournament. Despite falling short in the ASUN Conference Championship against Stetson, the Colonels had a standout season with 20 wins, second only to their program’s record of 21 wins. They also maintained a perfect home record of 16-0, which was best in the nation. EKU achieved their first ITA team ranking, reaching as high as No. 74 during the season. Evzen Holis was named to the First Team All-ASUN for his performance in singles.
The quarterfinals for the UTR Sports NIT Championship will begin on May 5, with EKU facing off against Liberty, Northwestern, Santa Clara and seven other teams. Fans can follow EKU Tennis on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for updates on their historic postseason run and watch them on Amazon Prime Video during the tournament.
In conclusion, Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team is set to make history by playing in the UTR Sports NIT Championship for the first time after achieving several milestones during their season including having one of their best seasons ever with 20 wins and a trip to Atlantic Sun Conference Championship and reaching their first ITA team ranking among many others .
