Easter Travel: 10 Million Italians Set to Holiday Despite Uncertain Weather

During the Easter holidays, an estimated 10 million Italians are set to travel, with two million still undecided due to uncertain weather conditions. However, these numbers are expected to increase as the long April 25 weekend approaches. The total expense for these holidays is estimated at 3.5 billion euros, which amounts to approximately 350 euros per person.

According to a recent report from the Confcommercio Tourism Observatory and Swg, many people have adjusted their plans in the past month, opting for shorter holidays closer to home. This trend is reflected in the fact that 61% of those interviewed will spend only two nights at their destination, a 12 percentage point increase from previous data. Despite this, the number of Italians traveling abroad for Easter has increased from 11% to 15%, with popular destinations including Spain, France, and Austria.

Within Italy, seaside locations remain the most popular holiday destinations for Easter, with 25% of preferences. Cities of art come in second place at 21%, while mountains rank third at 15%. When it comes to accommodation choices, travelers are split between hotels or bed and breakfasts (51%) and staying in second homes or visiting relatives and friends (30%). However, almost half of Italians (46%) who are staying within the country for Easter are planning trips outside of their own region. Popular destinations include Campania, Sicily, and Puglia in the South, and Emilia Romagna, Lombardy
