Chiefs sign Clyde Edwards-Helaire to one-year contract

Clyde Edwards-Helaire Commits to Stay with Kansas City Chiefs for Another Year

After a successful 2024 season with the Kansas City Chiefs, Clyde Edwards-Helaire has decided to stay with the team for another year. The Chiefs selected Edwards-Helaire with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2020 draft following their Super Bowl LIV victory, and he had a standout rookie year with 1,100 yards from scrimmage and five total touchdowns. However, due to injuries and Isiah Pacheco’s strong performance, Edwards-Helaire fell down the depth chart in 2022.

Despite declining his fifth-year option last spring, Edwards-Helaire still managed to tally 411 yards from scrimmage on 87 touches during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII win. In his 48 games with 32 starts, he has accumulated 1,845 rushing yards with 12 rushing touchdowns. Additionally, he has caught 89 passes for 765 yards and seven TDs.

In addition to re-signing Edwards-Helaire, Kansas City reportedly had running back J.K. Dobbins in for a visit on Tuesday. It is uncertain whether the signing of Edwards-Helaire will impact their pursuit of Dobbins, who recently met with the Chargers as well.
