Central Pa. ice cream company expands with second Cumberland County shop

An ice cream company with roots in downtown Harrisburg is expanding.

Earlier this week, Urban Churn opened its third shop at 258 Westminster Drive at the Carlisle Crossings in Carlisle.

Owner Adam Brackbill founded Urban Churn about nine years ago in a modest space at Midtown Cinema generating ice cream in six-gallon batches.

The ice cream is created with all-organic components and no artificial flavorings or colorings. Some components are sourced locally for the ice cream, which includes 14 % butterfat.

““It’s been a wild ride,” Brackbill not too long ago shared on a Facebook post.

“From beginning off churning behind a cinema in Midtown Harrisburg, surviving by way of COVID-19 to opening our 2nd and 3rd areas, I’ve discovered a lot and am so thankful. We’ve discovered a lot by way of failures and successes, and we’ve grown by way of partnerships and buddies. Urban Churn would not exist if it wasn’t for our neighborhood and supporters,” he mentioned.

Urban Churn also operates shops at the Silver Creek Plaza in Silver Spring Township and in Midtown Harrisburg.

Hours at the Carlisle Urban Churn place are 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 11:30 a.m.-ten p.m. Friday-Saturday and noon-eight p.m. Sundays. Closed Mondays.
