Midtown businesses send a message to burglars following third break-in

Burglaries in Midtown Business District Continue to Pile Up, Leaving Stores Struggling to Keep Up with Costs

Ounce of Hope, a business located in the Cooper Young area of Midtown, has become the latest victim of a series of burglaries in the region. Nearly $6,000 worth of merchandise was stolen during a recent break-in at the store, marking the third time in the past year that it has been targeted by thieves.

The incident has caused frustration among the staff at Ounce of Hope, who are dealing with setbacks such as being dropped by an insurance company and increased rates as a result of these repeated burglaries. Despite these challenges, the store does not pass on these costs to customers, further straining their financial situation.

According to data from the Memphis Data Hub, there have been 42 reports of burglaries and robberies of businesses within a half-mile radius of Ounce of Hope in the last year. The most recent incident involved two men breaking into Aldo’s Pizza, stealing over $1,000 worth of food and alcohol. Surveillance cameras at Ounce of Hope captured a clear photo of one of the thieves, though it is unclear if they are connected to the Aldo’s Pizza burglary.
