Amazon to discontinue using ‘Just Walk Out’ technology at grocery stores

Amazon Ditches ‘Just Walk Out’ Technology for New Self-Service Option at Fresh Stores

Amazon has decided to discontinue its “Just Walk Out” self-service technology at Amazon Fresh stores in the United States. The company will be replacing this technology with the “Amazon Dash Cart,” which provides a similar checkout-free experience for customers.

The new Amazon Dash Cart allows shoppers to scan items before placing them in the cart and pay automatically without having to wait in line. This new feature was introduced after customers expressed a desire for more convenience and features like finding nearby products, viewing their receipt, and knowing how much they saved while shopping.

Amazon spokesperson Jessica Martin stated that the company has been redesigning its Amazon Fresh stores to enhance the overall shopping experience for customers. While the “Just Walk Out” technology will no longer be available at Amazon Fresh stores in the U.S., it will continue to be available at Amazon Go stores and smaller Amazon Fresh stores in the U.K. The first cashier-less Amazon grocery store outside of North America was opened in London in 2021.
