Nurse at Sanford Hospital Retires After Six Decades of Dedicated Service

A Sanford Health Pioneer Says Farewell: The Inspiring Story of Carol Wieneke

Carol Wieneke, a Sanford Health employee of 60 years, is saying goodbye to her role at Sanford Luverne. Throughout her six decades there, she has learned to find joy in the simple moments and to see the joy in her work. She believes that if people don’t enjoy their work, they won’t do good work.

Carol’s niche has been people as she has been known for caring for patients and staff. Her colleague of 13 years, Cheryl Groen, spoke highly of Carol’s character. Groen emphasized how much Carol actually cares about the patients and her fellow staff members and how she treated every person as a family member.

Even though it’s not goodbye forever, Groen knows that Carol will always be her friend forever and Carol will stop by to both volunteer at the hospital and just check in with everyone from time to time. Her reputation of keeping her word is something Groen admires and will keep her in high regard as a close friend.
