A Celebrity-Studded Summit Takes on Extreme Poverty and Climate Change: Inside the 2019 Global Citizen Event

The Global Citizen event is set to take place in May, with several celebrities and influential decision-makers in attendance. Michelle Yeoh, Hugh Jackman, Danai Gurira, and Dakota Johnson are among the attendees, all of whom are committed to finding solutions for issues related to food insecurity and climate change.

The summit will bring together leaders from politics, business, and philanthropy to create a global agenda for urgent action to address extreme poverty. Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh will be attending, as well as Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi and Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg.

Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans emphasized the importance of advancing ideas to end extreme poverty, stating that the world is facing critical issues that require immediate attention. Actors like Hugh Jackman, Danai Gurira, and Dakota Johnson will be participating in the event.

Danai Gurira expressed her commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices, particularly focusing on addressing inequities in Africa. The summit will also focus on defeating preventable diseases such as malaria, polio, and HPV while also announcing initiatives related to preserving the Amazon Rainforest and increasing investments in Africa through the World Bank.

Organizers also aim to inspire the next generation of advocates by awarding five young individuals making extraordinary efforts to create positive change in the world with financial support through the Global Citizen Prize awards.
